Goals in Lessons

In this article, we will learn how to work with goals on the GetCourse platform, namely:

• string;
• text;
• checkbox;
• choice;
• multiple choice;
• date;
• file;
• number.

Goals can provide useful, almost irreplaceable functionality if your training has, for example, a sports orientation. Coaches will be able to track the dynamics of the physical indicators of their students, see visual changes in the photo or draw up graphs of results.

Even if your training is not related to sports, but with each lesson, students can do better for themselves or the world around them, then use your imagination to the fullest in applying the goals, and the rest will be done by our multifunctional and flexible service.

• In the “Training” tab, go to the “Goals” section.
• Click on the green button “Create goal”.
• Now we will enter the name and description of our goal, which will not be available to the student, but will make navigation easy for administrators and teachers.
• Don't forget to save!
• By clicking on the “Add field” button, you will see a list of options of all fields types for students' answers.

You can add one or several fields, also you can make all the fields of the same type, you can try to gather different options - at your discretion. Each type of field for a goal has its own properties, so we'll take a look at each option: how it looks during setup and in the finished lesson.

String

The string type is used when the student needs to enter a word or phrase as an answer. The “Output name” field is not displayed at this stage - it will appear before the answer itself in the comments when the student submits his answer.
Please note: the red “Delete” button will erase the entire goal, and the white button will only erase a specific field. Don't missclick!

Text

In case you are interested in a more detailed answer from a student, you can add the “Text” field. The size of the text is set by the number of strings that can be specified in the “Field height” cell.

Checkbox (Yes/No)

Your student will be able to answer closed questions using a checkbox, in which the presence of a tick means “Yes” and the absence of which means “No”.

Multiple choice

To create a multiple choice field, you need to specify a list of possible answers in the “Multi select” field. Each answer option is written in a new string.When answering, the user will be able to choose one or several options at once. This field gives you the opportunity to create a question with a single possible answer.

Date

A field that allows the student to select a date in the calendar as the answer.

File

The student can upload his own file, for example, a photo confirming successful results in achievement of other goals.
The “Height” and “Width” fields are optional - they can be specified if you want to customize the size of the gray area at the uploaded file location.

Numeric

You can build graphs by numerical values. However, it is not necessary to show all the numeric fields in the results dynamics graphs. This is configured by the checkboxes in the “Show on graph” and “Hidden on graph by default”.

Placing the goal in the lesson:

First, you need to create a lesson and add an task to it - this is required, since the goal is an additional field of the answer to the task attached to the lesson.
Also note that the dynamics of goal indicators is tracked by lessons to which this goal is attached.

How can you track dynamics with goals?After the completion of several lessons in which the students entered their results, it will be possible to look at the dynamics of their work on graphs or in the form of a table.

• To do this, go back to the “Goals” section.
• Then click on the number of records for the selected goal.
• Select the user you are interested in.
• And enjoy the page containing the results!

In order for the student to be able to see his results also, on the page (for example, of a specific training), through the view setting, you can display the system block “User achievement”.
This is convenient, for example, when a student attaches a photo before and after the training.

The block “User achievement” displays the fields marked as “key”.
